The Centurion Inn dates back to the 18th Century when it was known as the 'Brown Cow Inn'. (It was subsequently called the 'Black Bull' for many years before finally shedding the bovine connection and adpoting its ' present persona in 1974.)

The bar area comprises four of the former rooms in the old inn and still features the wonderful early Victorian fireplace that was originally used for cooking. The pots and cauldrons have long since been relocated to the kitchen, so these days its' principal function is to warm the bones of the weary traveller as he gazes wistfully into the flickering flames at shapes and faces that dwell on the very edge of memory.

Turn away from the fire for a moment and you may focus on a rather splendid stone built, oaken-topped bar at which you may be tempted to indulge in a glass of good English ale, or even a mellow single malt.

But dont let your enthusiasm encroach on tomorrows agenda - well, not too much anyway!
