Border County Foods (BCF) produces the definitive ‘Old County Original’ Traditional Cumberland Sausage regularly featured by food writers and broadcasters alike. Austen is Rick Stein’s Cumberland Sausage Food Hero and appeared with him in the BBC TV series.
BCF is far more than sausage, however, producing a range of quirky regional delicacies that delight the taste buds and remind you (just a bit) of what food tasted like when we were children!
Add to that home-reared Gloucestershire Old Spot and Large Black pork and you really are cooking with gas (although we actually prefer our Aga!).
Austen & Jackie also operate E. Forster & Son, the County’s oldest established fish merchant and game dealer that commenced trading in Carlisle in 1881. The business now operates from Kingmoor Park, north-east of the City, and specialises in fresh fish and seasonal wild game obtained from both sides of the Border – legally, of course!
